Abstract art is my state of mind. It is a visual experience and conversation that can be compromised with words. I prefer to let viewers open their minds, hearts and emotions to what they see and feel in my paintings.
My art practice is about the way I explore life, this one, a past one or a future one. I am influenced by dreams, philosophy, nature, music, emotions, architecture, ancient civilizations, visual enlightenment, my vivid imagination, and the Universe. Painting is my meditation allowing my soul to bare itself. The mysteries will be revealed without telling you the secrets … releasing fear of the process and failure, it simply is, as I have learned to be.
How and why do I create my abstract art? My paintings combine energy, structure, chaos, illusion, layers, calm pauses, textures, paint, and mixed mediums. My painting tables have wheels allowing me to spin them around and dance with my canvases to create large gestural work. When I reach into my meditative mind, it helps me create extremely detailed outlines within a painting to create focused areas of surprise and interest. My favorite part is when I am lost in the flow, absorbed in colors, forms, images, and mark making that appear to come out of thin air into my arms, hands, fingers, and flow onto the canvas.
What does my art mean? The answers are in my abstract art. In one moment, you will see one idea, in another you will see something different. Truly, I don’t even understand my own art. I stand in this singular moment in time and space that will never be repeated exactly as it is happening right now as everything is in a constant state of change. That is why I paint in the moment, without hesitation, without trepidation, without forethought, getting inside out; for I only have that moment. It will disappear and I must say what I want before that one moment becomes another or a memory I can’t recall. Am I revealing something about myself or am I drawing something out of you? Who are we in the Universe? Is this something over which we have control? Is this the Universe’s response to my query as to why we are here? When I paint, time stands still…in that moment…even though the hands on the clock fly past the numbers on its face, minutes, hours, and days vaporize.
Each painting I create is an original, a visual metaphor waiting to be examined. It can be colorful, happy, energetic, or bold, mysterious, and deeply intriguing.
I believe:
Art is a mysterious gift.
Art is what makes us human.
Art helps us feel alive.
Art allows humans to communicate.
Please ask yourself, what the world would be like without Art?
